Aranama RV Park is known for it’s wide open flat land and for having tons of green space. There are many different species of trees like Oak, Ash, and Cedar Elm. The grass is sometimes bare because of the hot sun beating down on it all day long. There’s nothing quite like a large field of green grass with the blue sky above it. However, despite its beauty there’s a major pest problem. The park is overrun with termites. Termites are an issue because they chew through wood and they are destroying all the trees in the park. In addition to causing significant damage to the shrubbery, termites are biting and killing ants in the area. Exterminators like Albany Pest Control use Termidor Liquid, Dry Foam, and sometimes bait depending on the type of termite species that is invading the area.
Signs of Termites
- Termite droppings – After eating wood and cellulose, termites leave behind little bits of fecal matter. A significant quantity indicates a large number of termites in the immediate vicinity.
- Holes in the drywall – Despite being very small, termites can eat through any kind of wood. They make pin size holes directly through the wood.
- Existence of mud tubes – Termites build intricate networks of channels below the ground that looks like a maze, similar to that of ants. When they move above ground, they collect soil and dirt to build “mud tubes”; mud tubes are tunnels made from soil, wood, and saliva that allow the termites to travel back and forth between their colony and the area above ground. The mud tubes provide shelter from predators and also prevent the air from drying out.
- Accumulation of wings – When it’s time for a termite colony to expand, a swarm occurs. Thousands of swarming termites leave their original colony to pair up and reproduce. Once matched with their mates, termites will shed their wings, build a new nest, and begin to populate.
Termite Removal Methods
Termidor
Termidor is a special chemical substance that can be applied only by a certified professional. This substance is not available over the counter, but it’s extremely effective at killing termites. Termidor is applied along the foundation walls of the home and over any areas that are experiencing an infestation or are prone to one. As an odorless termite control product, Termidor works in less than 3 months with very few applications. A study by the US Department of Agriculture showed that fields that used Termidor lasted 15 years without termite incidents after application.
Dry Foam
Dry foam contains Fipronil, the active ingredient from Termidor. It’s applied wherever termites are currently residing and lasts up to 6 weeks after application. Termites will walk through the foam and inadvertently carry the poison back to the colony to kill everything. This product is particularly great for removing termites from impossible to reach places like behind the drywall in a home.
